Slovakia's annual inflation rate slowed to 3.1% in August 2026 from 3.3% in July, coming in just below market expectations of 3.2%. This was the lowest rate since December 2024, driven largely by a sharper decline in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-2.5% vs -2.1%).

Price growth also eased across several categories, including clothing and footwear (0.4% vs 0.8%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (1.3% vs 1.4%), health (4.8% vs 5.1%), transport (6.5% vs 7.0%), recreation, sport and culture (4.7% vs 5.2%), education (5.9% vs 6.0%), and insurance and financial services (4.5% vs 4.6%).

In contrast, inflation picked up for alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (2.6% vs 1.8%) and for information and communication services (2.3% vs 2.2%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat, matching market forecasts and following a 0.1% rise in July. Core inflation, which excludes regulated prices, edged down to 1.5% in August from 1.7% in July, reaching its lowest level since February 2021.
